It’s true! The perfect pair of pumps and a string of pearls can turn any outfit from drab to fab. I had been searching for the perfect blog title for months when I accidentally tuned-in to an episode of the Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin comedy. Et voila! Flats are for Quitters was born and I’ve been strutting it in my stilettos ever since. I’ve been obsessed with fashion and beauty since I was a toddler in a tiara – actually, there's pictorial evidence available. Lipstick, handbags, feathers and furs have been my obsession for as long as I can remember. My mom claims I would actually cry every morning before kindergarten if she wouldn’t let me wear a dress. Growing up in Waterloo, ON, I spent my childhood and teen years competitively dancing and I truly think it’s the glitz and the glamour of the costumes that sparked my interest in all things LOVELY. After attending Wilfrid Laurier University and acquiring in post-graduate diploma a Public Relations from Conestoga College (+ completing 2 cruise ship contracts as a Revue Show Dancer), I moved to Toronto and have been working the world of spin ever since. I live right in the heart of the city in a little bachelor apartment that I adore. I couldn’t ask for anything more perfect – other than my boyfriend of 6 years moving back to Toronto from California. A girl can dream, right? RSVP: PSALMSxZIMELE Collection Launch

I’m assuming that at this point, you’ve realized that I have a real affinity for JEWELS. Pearls, emeralds, silver and gold – jewellery is an accessory that I just cannot live without! My collection is out of control – to the point that I’m currently looking into new condo options with more closet space – and I’ve been informed by my boyfriend that I “must stop buying jewellery”. I’m a really bad listener (sorry, babe!) but I have made a conscious effort to limit the addition of gems being added to my collection. Unfortunately, all is out the window when perusing PSALMS 91:1 Accessories.

Psalms 91:1 Accessories is a sophisticated collection of handcrafted jewellery that was launched in 2005 by Sally Han. Sally’s incredible eye for trends, combined with her thorough craftsmanship utilizing such natural elements as: wood, leather, semi-precious stones, crystals and quality metals has truly made Psalms 91:1 Accessories one of my favourite Canadian jewellery brands.

In addition to Sally’s STUNNING designs and unique statement pieces, I was initially drawn to the brand after hearing about the inspiration behind the designs: Sally’s mission trips and interpersonal relations. Yes, Psalms 91:1 boasts a very impressive cliental (celebrity fans include: Nina Dobrev, Michelle Williams and Daryl Hannah) but what continues to impress me most about the innovative Toronto-based Designer is her continuous effort to make charity donations and fundraise for emergency relief aid with proceeds generated from seasonal events. Which brings me to: PSALMSxZIMELE.

ZIMELE, literally meaning to stand on your own two-feet, is a South African organization that believes in empowering and healing people living in poverty through programs and education on self-sustainability. In collaboration with Psalms 91:1 Accessories, “The Zimele Collection” will showcase an incredible display of design, collaboration and craftsmanship between Canadian and South African Women.

All sales from the jewellery will go directly to the South African women that put their hearts and souls into the development of these stunning pieces, while proceeds from the event will be donated to ZIMELE to drive awareness to their cause. On Saturday, March 9th, Psalms 91:1 will be launching the PSALMSxZIMELE collection at the Gladstone Hotel located downtown Toronto. Guests will have the opportunity to view an exhibition showcasing the collaboration, enjoy live entertainment, sweets and cocktails + have the opportunity to listen to guests speakers and purchase pieces to support the women of South Africa.
