Clearly, Britney’s “come-back” following her 2007 mental break was ill planned – a case of too much too soon – but what if the children of destiny have waited too long to still be relevant? What if JT’s vision for his future musical endeavours doesn’t live up to what we’ve all be praying for since the 2006 release of his FutureSex/LoveSounds album? Comebacks are risky, especially when you “retire” at the top of your game.

Justin Timberlake’s comeback track, Suit and Tie, shot to the top of the iTunes singles chart on Monday following its early morning release. The track, featuring JAY-Z, is slated to sell between 330,000 and 350,000 copies this week according to Billboard. This would historically make it JT’s top performing week in digital sales! While sales have been high, Suit and Tie has received mixed reviews – and I get it. While I’m not a fan of the slow, soulful intro, I’m a big fan of the *actual* jam which brings me back to such Timberlake successes as Rock Your Body and Carry Out. Haven’t heard it yet? …and then there was Destiny’s Child. Beyonce’s my girl and I’m generally a big supporter (I even liked her in Dreamgirls!) but there’s something about DC3′s Nuclear that I just can’t deal with. Their first release since 2005, DC3′s BORING single will be featured on the groups recently announced album, Love Songs. I cannot handle this song – it’s absolutely pitiful. Co-wrote by Michelle Williams and produced by Pharrell Williams, I would have expected far more than this monotone waste of 3 minutes. One can only pray that when Williams and Kelly Rowland join Blue Ivy’s mom at the Superbowl Halftime Show on February 13, they stick to what works: upbeat jams and girl powered tracks. You be the judge, but I just know you’re going to be disappointed:

Alana’s mother received onslaughts on negative feedback for feeding Alana “Go Go Juice”, a combination of energy drink and Mountain Dew. Some insiders have even insinuated that Alana’s beloved juice may contain small amounts of alcohol. Regardless of the go-go controversy, Alana is Toddlers & Tiaras biggest breakout star since pageant royalty, Eden Wood, took the stage in season 1.

Since Alana’s first appearance on Toddlers & Tiaras – where she famously proclaimed “a dolla makes me holla, honey boo boo!” – she has appeared on dozens of talk shows including Anderson and Good Morning America. What can you expect from Here Comes Honey Boo Boo on TLC? In a press release issued by TLC’s publicity team, ‘[they’ll be] doing what [they] do best: four-wheeling through mud pits and picking up road kill for the family cookout.’ The official premiere date has yet to be determined.

Six years after Ricky’s passing, it looked like Emily’s luck was changing, as Brad selected her over runner-up, Chantal O’Brien, in what seemed like the most obvious choice…ever! The finale was the epitome of a fairytale. Brad got down on one knee; Emily accepted and they lived happily ever after, right? Wrong! I still remember sitting with my sister and celebrating Emily’s victory, when a promo for The Bachelor: After the Rose panned across the television screen. When I saw Emily’s tears, I knew that the tabloids had been true: THE WEDDING WAS OFF!

Ultimately, Emily and Brad cited the cause of their breakup as Emily’s jealousy of other contestants and their relationships with Brad, her less than enthused feelings about uprooting her life and moving to Texas and Brad’s terrible temper. It’s a pity, that $50,000 Neil Lane diamond engagement ring was a stunner! Now two years later, Emily is back in the spotlight and ready to TRULY find the man of her dreams.

Emily’s edition of The Bachelorette will premiere on Monday, May 14^th from 8PM to 10PM on OMNI TV in Canada/ABC in USA and this week we got a sneak peek of her suitors. Rogers Media and L’Oreal Canada are collaborating to present Canada’s Best Beauty Talent. The six-part reality web-series, which premieres in April 2012, will showcase up-and-coming hair and makeup artists as they faceoff with other contestants. According to Rogers Media, “Bringing together leading Rogers Media entertainment and lifestyle brands – Citytv, FLARE, HELLO! Canada, LOULOU and Chatelaine – and L’Oreal Canada’s top beauty brands, including L’Oreal Paris, each episode will see promising hair and makeup artists teamed up to create a specific look, corresponding with the theme of each week’s challenge. Twists, turns and drama unfold as the contestants compete to impress the panel of judges in the hopes of being named Canada’s Best Beauty Talent.” 

There has been a ton of buzz about the recent announcement that Canadian Supermodel, Coco Rocha, will be hosting the series…but the real star of the show in my opinion is…Tami El Sombati. Yes, you’re right – the show hasn’t been cast yet – but if these casting directors have ANY eye for talent, she will be! Tami is one of my oldest friends in the world and I am so proud of her for putting herself out there and auditioning. While I’m sure she’s very interested in the prizes (a 2-page feature in FLARE, LOULOU and HELLO! Canada, attending the Toronto International Film Festival with L’OREAL Paris, a portfolio review with FLARE, LOULOU and HELLO! Canada editors, a beauty blog on Chatelaine.com and a trip to Paris to experience the world of L’Oreal), Tami’s passion for make-up artistry is truly what has driven her to apply.

Do you know anyone auditioning for Canada’s Best Beauty Talent? Tell them to be scared, Tami’s the one to beat!

What are you proud of? I am proud of my hair – it’s taken over 5 years to grow out of a ridiculous “lob” that I once  considered trendy! I am proud of my ability to speak in front of an audience with composure. I am proud of my enormous (and I mean outrageously large!) shoe collection. I am proud of my job as a Publicist at EGPR. Pride is truly an emotion that can be felt during the most frivolous of experiences – i.e. purchasing your first pair of Louboutin’s – or in contrast the most life changing of events, such as witnessing the birth of your first child. I experienced an intense feeling of pride on Sunday, February 12^th at Princess Twin Cinemas, as I watched the team of Conestogo, Ontario based production company, High Rise Studio, premiere their first feature film, Last Run, to FOUR sold out audiences.

High Rise Studio is an up-and-coming video production company that has generated quite a bit of noise since its start in 2010. Headed by Director/Producer, Matthew Ninaber, High Rise Studio’s purpose has always been “To tell stories that inspire people to live lives that are bigger than themselves.” To be bold: High Rise Studio has inspired me immeasurably! I have been a fan of Matthew, and the team at High Rise Studio, since Communications and Events Director, Jacqueline Ninaber, introduced me to their portfolio via a flash mob that was produced for Toronto based employee rewards and recognition company Achievers (formerly I Love Rewards). However, since completing production of the HILARIOUS flash mob – please note: it is mostly funny because my boyfriend makes his “professional” dance debut at 1 minute 19 seconds – it is clear that High Rise Studio has taken their love of film making to the next level with Last Run. (If you have a moment, I highly recommend checking out the flash mob below!)  

Last Run is the story of Adam (Nelson Dunk); a Toronto based 20-something just trying to keep his head above water financially. After graduating six years ago with a business degree and high aspirations, a recession hits the global economy and he is forced to take a job as a taxi driver to pay the bills. As he finishes dropping off his final client for the day, his dispatcher offers him one last run. It’s a cash job: a young girl named Rebecca (Rebecca Dunk) that needs a ride to Sudbury. It’s truly a ride that ends up costing Adam more than the average fare! The storyline was absolutely riveting; the acting was superb and the cinematography was outstanding. I found myself laughing, crying and proud as I watched the cast and crew of Last Run witness the movie magic that took 1 year, 1 month and 11 days to film.

According to Jacqueline Ninaber, “Our whole reason for premiering Last Run was to showcase to people that there is a lot of talent in Kitchener/Waterloo.  Although we do smaller, corporate work to ‘pay the bills’, so to speak, film making and telling creative stories that inspire people to live lives that are bigger than themselves is our passion and we are excited to share what we are doing with our community.”

Congratulations to the cast and crew of Last Run; I can promise that this won’t be the LAST we see of High Rise Studio! Sorry, I had to get my cheesiness in here somewhere.

Who do you think were the best and worst dressed stars at the 2012 Golden Globes?

Since I was a young girl, my family has always made it a priority to spend quality time with each other over the holiday break. My parents were *amazing* about distributing presents evenly between my brother, sister and I. I can’t recall ever experiencing what some of my best friends refer to as “gift envy”. Except perhaps for the year that Joey got a Nintendo64 and I only got a DiscMan – SO not fair, mother! After opening our gifts Christmas morning, Joey, Renee and I always descend to our basement living area and spend the day watching holiday movies, many of which we receive in our stockings. It’s this reminiscence that stands out to me as one of my favourite holiday memories. As we get older, I can only hope that this tradition remains strong and hopefully one day we can enjoy it with our husbands, wives, kids etc. This blog is dedicated to my little brother and sister – Joey and Renee! I love you both and I can’t wait to spend time with you over the next couple of weeks.

10. Miracle on 34^th Street (1994)
While I am a fan of the original Miracle on 34^th Street, the 1994 feature starring Dylan McDermott, Elizabeth Perkins and Mara Wilson is one of the best remakes that I have ever seen. The story of a 6 year old girl named Susan who is struggling with believing in the magic of Christmas – AKA Santa Clause – follows the trial of an elderly man who claims to be the real deal! After “Santa” is institutionalized, McDermott’s character decides to defend him by arguing in court that he is the real thing. HOT!

9. Prancer (1989)
Prancer is the first holiday movie that I can remember watching with my parents! I haven’t watched it in a few years, but now that I realize it stars Cloris Leachman I will be watching again for sure. Prancer is the story of a girl named Jessica, the daughter of a farmer that resides on the countryside. Jessica has a strong faith in the holiday spirit and truly believes in Santa Clause. When she locates a reindeer with an injured leg, it makes perfect sense to her to assume that it is one of Santa’s pets. She hides him in her barn and feeds him cookies, until she can return him to Santa. Unfortunately, Jessica runs into issues along the way when her father wants to sell Prancer to an advertising company! BOO!

8. Scrooged (1988)
Starring Bill Murray, Scrooged, is the story of a egotistical television executive that is haunted by three spirits on Christmas Eve. Yes, it sounds *exactly* like A Christmas Carol. That’s probably because it is *exactly* like A Christmas Carol – just a lot funnier!

7. The Holiday (2006)
In my opinion, this is Cameron Diaz’s best work. I adore this holiday tale about two unlucky in love women that decide to house swap (California to England) over the winter holidays. Obviously, upon their arrival they quickly fall in love with hot (and hilarious) locals: Jude Law and Jack Black. Personally I find this concept frightening and with my luck I would end up being abducted by a family of circus performers but The Holiday truly makes my heart melt. If you have had the pleasure of viewing, think back to the scene with Cameron, Jude and his two movie daughters cuddling in their “fort”. SWOON!

6. Home Alone (1990)
As if this movie needs any introduction, Home Alone was the movie that propelled Macauley Culkin to superstardom and introduced us to potentially the worst villains of our time: The Wet Bandits. Home Alone is the story of 8-year-old Kevin McCallister and his struggle to defend his home after being left behind while his family flies to France for Christmas. This movie is hilarious in the way that JACKASS is hilarious: it’s funny to see people fall, wipe out down stairs, fall from trees etc.

5. The Santa Clause (1994)
Working what his mama gave him, Tim Allen optimized on his 60 minutes of fame starring in The Santa Clause. This movie was released during the time that Home Improvement was my Tuesday night show to choice. When Scott Calvin (Allen) accidentally kills Santa on Christmas Eve, he finds himself automatically recruited to take his place. I especially loved this movie as it was shot in Toronto and several of my dance friends starred in it!

 4. How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
Before “Little J” tore up the Upper East Side, only to leave four seasons in and turn into a little bit of a…super slut…Taylor Momsen was once a fresh faced “Ciny-Lou-Who” in How The Grinch Stole Christmas. This star studded Dr. Suess takeoff, chronicaled the story of “The Grinch” – an evil, green creature who’s committed to stealing Christmas. The soundtrack produced one of my favourite Christmas songs of all time: “Where Are You Christmas” by Faith Hill. Oh yeah, Jim Carrey wasn’t so bad either!

3. Love Actually (2003)
Not only is Love Actually one of my favourite holiday movies, it is one of my favourite films overall! Love Actually follows the journeys of eight British couples that are dealing with their love lives in various loosely and interrelated tales. The story is all set during the frantic month before Christmas and stars some of the best actors of our time including: Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Keira Knightley and Hugh Grant.

2. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)
He’s back! In Home Alone 2: Lost in New York our good friend, Kevin McCallister, proves again how terrible his parents are. Nice work, mom and dad! One year after Kevin was left home alone and had to defeat a pair of bumbling burglars, he accidentally finds himself in New York City – alone! The hilarious “Wet Bandits” return after a short stint in the slammer and take on a new alias “The Sticky Bandits”. What I *adore* about Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is the way the film envelopes its viewers and makes you feel like you are spending the holidays in New York City. It also doesn’t hurt that my favourite McCallister sibling – Buzz – makes his triumphant return!

1. Elf (2003)
There is nothing better than a good Will Farrell movie, except perhaps a good Will Ferrell Christmas movie! According to IMDB, Buddy was a baby in an orphanage who stowed away in Santa’s sack and ended up at the North Pole. Later, as an adult human who happened to be raised by elves, Santa allows him to go to New York City to find his birth father, Walter Hobbs. Hobbs, on Santa’s naughty list for being a heartless jerk, had no idea that Buddy was even born. Buddy, meanwhile, experiences the delights of New York City (and human culture) as only an elf can. When Walter’s relationship with Buddy interferes with his job, he is forced to reevaluate his priorities. Truly, this movie is the tale of an elf named Buddy that brings Christmas cheer to those around him. It’s perfect!

Ben Flajnik, The Bachelor

Happy December! My apologies for slacking in the blogging department over the last couple of weeks. I have been transitioning out of my current position at Shaw Media and into a full-time role at EGPR, as well as dog sitting (more on these changes and experiences in a future post!) It’s almost the end of the year, which generally means that television has gone sour. Many of my favourite shows are either on hiatus or their season is coming to an end. Luckily, one of my most beloved shows will be returning on Monday, January 2^nd on ABC: The Bachelor!

I have to admit that when I found out that last season’s #1 reject, Ben Flajnik, would be this seasons’ bachelor, I was more than disenchanted. Not only do I find him highly repellent, but he hails from San Francisco – ergo reminding me of @rjbianchin and his recent departure even more frequently. It also doesn’t help that Ben is the name of my ex-boyfriend and this seasons Romeo was recently linked to my least favourite actress of this decade, Jennifer Love Hewitt. However, since there is literally NOTHING television wise to look forward to come January, I have decided to give Benny Boy a shot. Hey, if all else fails at least I get a minimum of one hour a week to relieve myself of mean girl-ness and make fun of these frantic ladies! Who knows, perhaps I’ll even begin to value old Benjamin and is highly crooked schnaz?

Here’s what we know about Benjamin Flanjik so far: 

Ben is a 28 Wine Maker, hailing from Sonoma, California – just a hop, skip and a jump outside of San Francisco. Last season on the finale of The Bachelorette, Ben poured out his skinny little heart to Ashley Hebert, ultimately being rejected and sent packing. Ben claims that his goal is to “find his soul mate and a lasting, loving relationship” and to find a woman who will blend easily into his close-knit family. Ben attended University of Arizona and was a music major with a minor in business. Ben’s hobbies include: crab fishing, sailing, golf, skate boarding, surfing, playing piano and singing in a tribute band. A tribute band? REALLY?! Oh and to make matters worse, he is the Daddy of a Jack Russell Terrier name scotch – my least favourite breed of puppy!

You’re probably wondering why I would even bother tuning-in to this season when I am so obviously annoyed by Ben. There’s just something about the excitement of those rose ceremonies and having the insight of what the contestants are really like that makes it impossible for me to stay away. I spent an entire season yelling at the TV to Jake Pavelka – “Vote Vienna off now! She’s crazy!” If only he would have listened, eh?

 Today the announcement of Ben’s 25 contestants was made. Some of these women are beautiful, smart and truly seem to be interested in finding “the one”. I’ve highlighted my front-runners for this season, as well as some interesting facts. Check it out:

Remember the time that I wasted 4 hours of my Sunday night tuning-in to the most boring awards show in the history of television? Yeah, I remember that too!

On Sunday, ABC aired the 2011 American Music Awards and I could not have been more disappointed. I tuned-in to the red carpet pre-show, hosted by Vanessa Lachey (take that Jessica Simpson!) and “The Bachelor” host Chris Harrison, at 7pm. The red carpet pre-show is usually one of the highlights of these events for me. I have the opportunity to learn more about what the celebrities are wearing, who their date is and if they are nominated, performing and/or presenting an award. Unfortunately, this pre-show was just a free flow of B-list celebrities ignoring 2 B-lists hosts begging for interviews.

Generally speaking, I find musicians to be some of the best dressed celebrities out there. I am a massive fan of Rihanna’s style, Miley Cyrus’s punk-rock glamour and Victoria Beckham’s chic approach to fashion. However, another disappointment was the lack of musicians that even attended the AMA’s. Where were Britney, Lady Gaga and Beyonce? I understand that you’re busy ladies, but when you’re absent I get bored. Way to let me down! Nonetheless, as per usual there were some major fashion flops, style successes, one good performance (LMFAO!) and a lot of Justin Bieber – and for that I am not complaining.

What did you think of the 2011 American Music Awards?

Over the past decade, I’ve had to train myself to not get too attached to any new programming. Many of my favourite shows have been cancelled after the first season or WORSE – cancelled only a few episodes in. It’s sad, really! Not just for the audiences that become fast fans, but also for the cast and crew that puts their heart and souls into the production of these ventures. Yeah I know, It’s show business, but I think that it’s only fair that I pay homage to some of my favourite fallen programs.

Breaker High

10. Breaker High
As if this teen dream needs any introduction, Breaker High ran on YTV from 1997-1998. The “dramatic” teen comedy followed the lives of several high school students whose campus just happened to be on a cruise ship. Not only did Breaker High star a very young Ryan Gosling as Sean, but it introduced me to my first real crush – Max played by Scott Vickaryous, whom may I mention bares a striking resemblance to my boyfriend! Yum! It’s funny – I still hate the name Cassidy any time I hear it and whenever I’m in the South I have the urge to introduce myself as “Ashley Dupree…of the Georgia Dupree’s”.

Sweet Valley High

9. Sweet Valley High
Perhaps my earliest recollection of wanting to be a blonde (it’s not my natural colour – shocking right?) comes from watching Brittany and Cynthia Daniel strut their stuff as the Wakefield twins on Sweet Valley High. While the shows’ run wasn’t extremely short (1994-1997), I can’t help but feel that we were a bit ripped off; when it was cancelled I cried! Who knows, I may get my wish of a return – in March 2011, Francine Pascal released Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later. I smell a spin-off!

Melrose Place

8. Melrose Place
It’s all Ashlee Simpsons fault! I LOVED the reboot of Melrose Place on @Global_TV and I don’t care what anyone says, it was a hit! I’m getting worked up.

Get Real

7. Get Real
FOX’s Get Real only made it through one season (1999-2000) but it assisted in catapulting some of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities into stardom. In her first high profile role since The Princess Diaries, Anne Hathaway played Meghan Green of the San Francisco Green family. In addition on Hathaway, the program starred Eric Christian Olsen (NCIS: LA) and Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network). I can’t exactly remember the plot but if its cancellation is still bothering me 12 years later, it must have been good.

The Mole

6. The Mole
OK – reason A that I’m upset that The Mole is not longer on the air: it was hosted by Anderson Cooper. The ABC hit aired on and off from 2001 to 2008 with the final two seasons featuring celebrities. The premise of the show? Contestant’s travel all over the world solving puzzles and completing tasks with the ultimate goal of uncovering whom among them is attempting to sabotage the game. Loves it!

Veronica Mars

5. Veronica Mars
I have a feeling that I won’t be alone on this one! Veronica Mars aired on UPN and the CW Network from 2004-2007. The teen spy drama starred Kristen Bell as Veronica Mars who spent three seasons trying to crack the most mysterious crimes in her new hometown of Neptune, California. I have all three seasons of DVD and I would LOVE to see the hit series make a comeback. I have heard rumblings of a movie being in the works, which wouldn’t be too shabby either.

Charlie's Angels

4. Charlie’s Angels 
I may be alone on this one but I was a huge fan of the new Charlie’s Angels that aired earlier this year. It may be due to my girl crush on Minka Kelly but I honestly enjoyed their kick-ass demeanors and fab clothes. I’m a bit sad to see it go, aren’t you? No? Ok…moving on!

The Buried Life

3. The Buried Life
The cancellation is incredibly recent – as in last week! To be honest, the cancellation of MTV’s The Buried Life is what truly inspired this list. I absolutely LOVE watching this reality documentary series about four British Columbia expats whom travelled the USA attempting to complete their list of “100 Things to do Before We Die!” The most touching aspect of the show was that every time they completed one of their goals, they assisted someone else in completing theirs. The boys were all super gorgeous (especially Whitney Port’s ex-boyfriend, Ben Nemtin) and the show made me proud to be Canadian. Let’s get this straight MTV, you cancelled The Buried Life but you’re going to make me sit through another season of Jersey Shore? Something ain’t right here!

Hellcats

2. Hellcats
I bet that The CW thought that they hit the television gold mine when Ashley Tisdale signed on to star in their 2010 series, Hellcats. Apparently they were wrong! The one season wonder, which was shot in Vancouver, featured some of Disney’s hottest stars including Alyson Michalka and showcased some of Canada’s top dancers – which I loved! A mix between Bring it On and One Tree Hill, I truly thought that Hellcats was one show that I could allow myself to get attached to. Apparently not, as it was cancelled after 22 episodes. Boo!

Reunion

1. Reunion
The cancellation of this 2005 FOX series still haunts me – literally! The story of six friends brought together for their 20th high school reunion in which one of them is murdered and all of them become suspects ended mid-season before the killer was revealed. I know I need to get over this, but I still find myself wondering about it like once a week! Was it Aaron? (Dave Annabelle) Was it Carla? (Chyler Leigh) Was it Jenna? (Amanda Righetti) I NEED to know! Honestly, if someone can find me the entire first season of this show I will pay my hottest friend to make out with you. HELP!
